Ever since the 3rd game of the Eastern Conference Semi’s I’ve been actively thinking about it. That was also right about the time when every news outlet in the country started speculating on it as well… What would Lebron James look like in a Chicago Bulls jersey? Up until tonight the allure for Lebron seemed to be the promise of dominating on the bigger Chicago stage in the house that Michael built. With Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose, he would have two bona fide stars in support, much more athletic than a Shaquille O’Neal in the twilight of his career… plus, that scenario just played out in Cleveland this year and it wasn’t even good enough to get the King to the Conference finals.
But now I think the “this just might happen” factor is increasing as ESPN.com reported tonight that the Bulls are using back channels to reach out to ex-Bulls coach Phil Jackson, gaging his interest in possibly returning. Granted, Phil Jackson would most likely have no interest in that at all without Lebron joining as well… but Jackson is in the last year of his contract, James is obviously a free agent, and at 23 million below the cap, the Bulls are one of only a handful of teams that can legitimately vie for the King’s services… And let’s not forget Noah and Rose… in my mind, that would be the lynchpin for Lebron… if his goal is truly to win a Championship… I can’t think of any better place and any better time.
Keep your fingers crossed Bulls fans… this is definitely an offseason I’m gonna keep my eye on… after a decade plus out of the mix, we could about be ready to get back into the ring…
> Editors Note from 05/26 > Well, this one’s cooling off as Phil sounds pretty serious here… but as much as we love Phil Jackson, Lebron is the guy we need… while Noah and Rose still remain a pretty attractive supporting cast.
