And that makes understanding volcanoes and knowing how to live with them kind of important. Volcanoes tend to do what they’ve done in the past. So, by studying previous eruptions—what sort of rock, the chemistry of the ash, the size of the eruption, and other details—you can come up with a pretty good indication of what the volcano will do in the future.

The Chicago Cubs will not exercise their option to retain pitching coach Chris Bosio for 2018. Bosio had been with the Cubs since 2012, joining the franchise when Theo Epstein became team president. Under his watch, Jake Arrieta won the Cy Young Award in 2015 and Kyle Hendricks led the majors with a 2.13 ERA in 2016.
