Private space company SpaceX will fly two private citizens around the moon along the same path as Apollo 8 from the same launch pad — almost 50 years later.

“The last time the entire Sistine Chapel was photographed for posterity, digital photography was in its infancy and words like pixels were bandied about mostly by computer nerds and NASA scientists. Now, after decades of technological advances in art photography, digital darkrooms and printing techniques, a five-year project that will aid future restorations has left the Vatican Museums with 270,000 digital frames that show frescoes by Michelangelo and other masters in fresh, stunning detail.”

“It occurred to Durrell that most of that era’s designers are pushing 80 and ‘it was now or never to record some of these stories.’ He started by looking up designers in the phone book and cold-calling them to see if they wanted to talk. They did. He set out with two cameras and a boom mic to interview more than 25 designers for the documentary, which is raising funds on Kickstarter and is set to debut this fall.”

A cool story about a documentary being made chronicling Allan Fleming, Georges Huel, Burton Kramer and other famous graphic designers in Canada’s history.

“Under the relevant rule on “maintaining the integrity of the profession” in Alabama, where Sessions is barred, “dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation” and other “conduct that is prejudicial to the administration of justice” constitute professional misconduct.”

Jeff Sessions should be on the hot seat, but somehow doesn’t seem to be… in our new reality.

In saying he’d decline any offers to return as host of ‘The Apprentice’ anytime in the future… Arnold Schwarzenegger actually makes some good points on how it must feel to be associated in any way with Donald Trump these days… that said, the show royally sucked… so hopefully it will be put out to pasture once and for all as it jumped the shark years ago.

“Her voice, her attitude, her outlook on everything is so awesome,” Ulrich added. “[The performance] was so effortless and organic and she just has the spirit of hard rock and metal flowing through her veins. It comes really easy for her. There’s nothing contrived; she just has this super warm, easy energy.” Metallica and Lady Gaga post the video from the dress rehearsal for their Moth Into Flame collaboration at the Grammys a couple weeks back…

Colin Kaepernick’s National Anthem protest comes to an end

With All-Star games in professional sports, I’d guess the only thing fans of those sports are looking for in the exhibition-format all star matchup is for the best from both leagues to compete, as the sport is played for the duration of the contest… with football and to a lesser extent hockey, it’s easier to understand why the games aren’t pedal to the metal… they’re violent sports and you don’t want anyone getting hurt in a game that doesn’t mean anything… but baseball and basketball, different stories I believe… in baseball, they attached home-field advantage in the World Series to the victor… nice try but I never liked this idea from the start and was surprised that it lasted as long as it did… best record should hold home field for as long as they survive, this gives the regular season relevance which is much more important than an All-Star game… basketball… I mean the final score of this years contest was 192-182… which is just stupid… so hopefully this meeting of the minds can produce some viable ideas to at least somewhat rectify the situation.

There’s certain tools in my life such as desktop computers that seem to be following a vector of extinction which cause me a certain level of anxiety as I feel that no matter the technological progression, they’ll still have a place for a significant market share in that they fill I need that can’t be covered by the technologies that appear to be replacing them. High-end photographic gear is another such tool. The DSLR losing major ground to the phone cameras most everyone now has in their pockets. Which is a shame as it’s truly a comparison of apples to oranges, at least here in 2017… so what do the numbers look like behind the reason why? Have a look.
