According to a United Nations University study, the global quantity of e-waste generation in 2014 was around 41.8 [million metric tons].” That’s approximately 12 pounds of waste, or 38 iPhone 6s handsets, for every man, woman, and child on earth. Apple gets lots of patents… but this one is probably just because they can… the ability to disable iPhone cameras at concerts using coded infrared signals… as this technology wouldn’t affect Android cameras, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense for Apple to implement it.
