“So how was it? Well, with just a few minutes of sans-javascript life under my belt, my first impression was “Holy shit, things are fast without javascript”. There’s no ads. There’s no video loading at random times. There’s no sudden interrupts by “DO YOU WANT TO FUCKING SUBSCRIBE?” modals.” What the web feels like with JavaScript disabled…

“Apple will be working with local partners to invest in renewable energy projects from wind and other sources to power the data center. Apple has pledged to power all of its global operations with 100 percent renewable energy, and has already reached that goal in the US and 23 other countries.”

A dissection of John Bonham’s drumming that’ll blow your mind, especially if you’re a musician or have a clear understanding of time signatures… with Zeppelin’s prevalence on classic rock radio, I’ve made it a point to go out of my way to NOT listen to their stuff on purpose so that when I choose to it maintains a freshness… watching this video inspired me, listening now to Physical Graffiti as I type this.

As construction of Apple Campus 2 wraps up… I’m eternally grateful to Matthew Roberts for documenting the evolution of one of the most intriguing construction projects in world history (that was built by Union laborers at least) with his always stunning 4k drone footage… what else can I say? Have a look…

During the Great American Eclipse, photographer JunHo Oh captured this incredible close-up 4K footage of totality in real time. You can see a great deal of detail on the moon’s surface and in the Sun’s corona.

Hearing of Walter Becker’s death today truly saddened me… The Dan was and remains such an important band in my musical life. I came to their game late as a kid… I was first turned on to their 5th album, The Royal Scam, by this older kid that lived on my block. I soon obtained it on vinyl and listened over and over with the album cover propped up as I tried to draw it… every track on that album awesome, not a single throwaway… and then came Aja… what’s to say? In an era when albums were still king… and I listened to thousands of albums… Aja would rank Top 10, it remains an album I still spin once every couple months… so great, so great… and if it had been Donald Fagen that died first, I’d be typing these same words… Becker and Fagen will endure as one of the greatest songwriting duos in rock history… broadly influenced musical compositions realized in the recordings by many of the world’s greatest studio musicians, they all wanted to play with The Dan… and the words, every last lyric with a story behind it… done up in blue print blue, it sure looks good on you… godspeed Walter Becker.
