President Dumbshit strikes again… can’t say I pay much attention to his juvenile stream-of-consciousness… but how this whole Trump vs. NFL thing works out has me curious. So Trump dines privately with NFL owners, 7 of 30 donate huge money to attend his inauguration… and then mere months later we get this? Here’s a thought… collusion… I mean, why would Trump give a shit? He already vocalizes EVERY random turd that pops into his vacuum… what’s one more for your deep-pocket cronies? So now we’re left with owners and players uniting against their common villain, a beef the NFL fan base can rally behind… and to the back page goes the fact that Aaron Hernandez committed suicide at 27 burdened by stage 3 CTE… let’s get those ratings up, let’s get those kids back to playin’ Pop Warner… this isn’t about the flag anymore, it’s just wrapped in the flag…

“After more than a decade of outrage about border security, cattlemen and -women in the thorny southern Arizona outback have grown tired of recounting the memories. Fences and irrigation lines cut. Homes and sheds broken into. One of their own murdered in cold blood.”

“The smartphone is the signature artifact of our age. Less than a decade old, this protean object has become the universal, all-but-indispensable mediator of everyday life. Very few manufactured objects have ever been as ubiquitous as these glowing slabs of polycarbonate.” A severely interesting piece on the sociology of the smartphone by Adam Greenfield for Long Reads.

Hugh Hefner, who created Playboy magazine and spun it into a media and entertainment-industry giant — all the while, as its very public avatar, squiring attractive young women (and sometimes marrying them) well into his 80s — died on Wednesday at his home, the Playboy Mansion, in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles. He was 91.

Quick on the heels of the Hero 5, comes the Hero 6 from GoPro… it adds $100 to the price of a 5 but sports a new internally designed microprocessor that gives the 6 much improved video quality and image stabilization. Word is, if you already have a 5, upgrading to a 6 isn’t the best idea… but if you’re currently using a Hero3 or 4 and you’re looking to upgrade, the 6 is worth the extra money.

“Phone anxiety is a weird, and, for me at least, irrational thing. I knowthat mankind survived for millennia without the ability to communicate with each other out of earshot. But once you get used to having your phone with you at all times, you get used to feeling that if anyone needs you, they can get you.” John Gruber’s take on the new Apple Watch
